The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) contains many beneficial provisions but that will not help solve the problem of rapidly rising costs any time soon. “In the short term, health care costs are going up as a result of some of the increase in benefits that are being provided, which is great for people. But the absolute fact is it will cost more,” said Aetna Chairman and CEO Ronald Williams in an interview with Market Watch. He also talked about the need for greater use of health information technologies and modifying current payment systems. Aetna is the third largest health care insurer in the nation.
